MOBILITAS Launches Eco-Driving Training Course

Available to employees around the world, the programme signifies a significant step forward on the Group’s journey to sustainability.

MOBILITAS commits to sustainability with practical eco-driving education that reduces carbon footprint worldwide

Operating in over 100 countries, MOBILITAS and its subsidiaries manage a vast vehicle fleet that significantly impacts its carbon footprint. To combat this, the Group has launched an eco-driving course focused on reducing fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions.

“Sustainability goes hand in hand with the professional development of our teams,” says group ESG Co-ordinator, Odin Kloppers. “This programme supports drivers and fleet managers in improving day-to-day practices, while contributing to MOBILITAS’ broader sustainability agenda.”

Making sustainability tangible at every level

Developed in-house by the Group’s ESG and training teams, the course draws on global best practices tailored to reflect MOBILITAS’s diverse fleet, varying operating regions, and local realities.

“Our goal is to make sustainability tangible at every level of the organisation,” explains Kloppers. “By providing practical training directly linked to daily work, we embed sustainability into our operations — not as an abstract concept, but as a real skillset that drivers can apply on the road immediately.”

Designed for global reach, built for local application

The syllabus concentrates on three critical areas where participants can make an impact:

  • Route optimisation – planning journeys to minimise fuel use, accounting for traffic, road conditions and terrain.
  • Vehicle checks – encouraging regular maintenance practices such as tyre pressure monitoring and load balancing to support fuel efficiency.
  • Driving techniques – promoting smoother driving styles, steady speeds and anticipatory driving to reduce unnecessary fuel consumption.

Hosted on the MOBILITAS online training platform, the module is self-paced for maximum convenience. It is also available in 11 languages, with additional translations underway to ensure that participants can engage with the material comfortably.

Cultivating behavioural change

MOBILITAS employee eco-driving training empowering sustainable driving practices worldwideWhile most studies suggest that eco-driving techniques can help reduce fuel consumption, the ESG team hasn’t set specific reduction targets yet, as they are still collecting baseline fuel consumption data.

“At this stage, we’re focused on building awareness and promoting smarter driving habits,” Kloppers notes. “Even modest improvements, applied consistently across a global fleet, can deliver meaningful carbon savings.”

Long term, the ESG coordinator wants to cultivate true behavioural change. Drivers will be required to renew their certification every three years, to ensure their knowledge stays current and actionable.
